Waist gun
I got the first waist gun sorted out and it looks pretty good. The guns are from Wing mfg. |

Nacelles
The nacelles are planked with 1/8" strips. Am not sure how I am going to smooth out the rear of them yet. All of the leading edge sheeting is done now as well. |

|
Top Turret
The top turret is fitted. It will be removable and all the service items will be mounted under it. |
Rudder fin
After I got the window cut for the waist, I went ahead and started to get the fin sheeted and shaped. It is starting to look like a B-17 now!!!! |

She's getting there!
Here is a new shot of the work I have done since the last update. Most of the work is engine and internal stuff. All engines are 100% finished and ready to go! |
Front Quartering pic
As you can see I have started to cut the holes for the windows. It is a hard thing to do, taking a knife to the wood after all that work. One slip and it's ruined. I did of course slip a few times and repairs have to be made. |

Front and center!
A front shot of a B-17 has to be the best angle. The plane has attitude and this angle shows it off. The scale props look better than I had ever hoped they would. |
The tail is built!!
The tail is just about done now. The rudder is built, the fin is sheeted and the fairings are in place. All that is needed now is to get a gunner in there and put his glass on! |

Top turret ring and mount
As you can see the turret ring and mount is built. Not long now and we will be glassing this monster!!!! |
What a mess my shop is!!!!
This is the first time I have used Flite Metal and I must say I am very happy with it!!! Nothing looks like aluminum than aluminum does! |
|

|
Looking like a real metal B-17 now!
The Flite Metal is very thin and can be burnished down nice and smooth. It goes around curves with a bit of work and as you can see, it looks fantastic! |
Getting closer to a B-17 now!
Well, the shop is a mess, but the model is sure looking good now!! |

Tail close up
I still have to cover the rudder and make up the triangle S decal for the fin, but I am really happy about the way the tail looks. |
Nose art
I have been waiting 3 long years for this day!! The nose art that got me interested in this B-17 is now in place! I am getting very excited about this as I am in the home strech now! I just can't wait to get it all covered and together for some photos! |
